The Surpise Engagement: Dinora and Juan

Generally when doing an engagement session, I ask the couple for a small write-up of how they first met so I can incorporate it into the blog. I was surprised when I received this:

“Dinora and I have been together for a little over four years now. I still remember the day that I saw her. While in college, I was working the night shift and one morning my friend and I decided to get some breakfast after work. Dinora was working at the restaurant when she laughed as she overheard our jokes. I saw her smile and several extra pounds later…we were boyfriend and girlfriend.

The topic of marriage has been a discussion for some time. Once I got the ring, the big question remained of how I was going to ask her. People have given their suggestions, on what I could or should not do. Alex always joked about hiding when I popped the question so he can get pictures of it. The thought then came to me to do it as an actual photo session. Dinora has always wanted to take portraits of us, but always in an outdoor setting. As part of a gift for our four year anniversary, I let her know that we were going to get professional pictures taken and the setting of her choosing.

We found a beautiful garden in Toms River with a pond directly behind it. Alex and Heather directed everything smoothly and did a phenomenal job as they assisted and setting up my proposal. Dinora and I feared the potential rain that was predicted for the entire weekend, but were very pleased with the results.”

Juan and I have been friends since the 7th grade and he was one of my groomsmen at our wedding. We are honored to be part of their special moment.

Barnegat Lighthouse

Last Sunday I was having the itch to just drive around and take photographs of anything. So I grabbed my keys and gear, and hit the road. While driving around and trying to figure out what to capture, I started thinking about the one place I said I always wanted to go….. Barnegat Lighthouse. After a few minutes of thinking, I decided to go for it and headed for Long Beach Island.

When I got to the lighthouse, the sea breeze was cool and the sky was clear. I took a few shots of the outside while talking to a stranger about photography. Then I headed inside to go up to the top, not realizing that hauling a full camera bag up a spiraling, 217 step staircase is not a good idea. I had only spent a few minutes up top before heading back down because it was very crowded and hard to move around. By the time I was outside I was already sore and tired, but I still had a nice time and got to take some nice photos.

Liz and Adam: The Wedding…part 2

Liz and Adam have actually been married for three years. This photo session was an anniversary gift to each other. Since Liz was never fully pleased with her original wedding photos, she went all out! We were happy to give her a more photo journalistic approach to her most important photos. I had the honor of being in their wedding three years ago (she was also in ours), and now got to help them out with their very special anniversary. We took these pictures in Huddy Park and in downtown Toms River, NJ. It was a beautiful day and we all had a wonderful time. Liz and Adam are both full of personality and we hoped to capture exactly that. Although rain was a constant threat, the weather held out for us and we were very pleased. Here are some of our favorites…
